Islamic injunctions included in PCO

ISLAMABAD, July 15: The chief executive, Gen Pervez Musharraf, on Saturday promulgated Provisional Constitution (Amendment) Order 2000 to include Islamic injunctions in the PCO No 1 which was announced by him on Oct 14.

It shall come into force at once and shall be deemed to have taken effect on and from Oct 14, 1999.

It states that the amendment is necessary "for removal of doubts," and to ensure "the continuity and enforcement of the Islamic injunctions in the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan."

It says that after clause (3) in the PCO No 1 of 1999, the following clause shall be inserted and shall always be deemed to have been so inserted, namely:

"(4) Notwithstanding anything contained in the Proclamation of the Fourteenth Day of October, 1999 or this Order, or any other law for the time being in force, all provisions of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan embodying Islamic injunctions, including Articles 2, 2A, 31, 203A to 203J, 227 to 231 and 260(3) (a) and (b), shall continue to be in force and be deemed to have always so continued to be in force and no provision as aforesaid shall remain in abeyance or be deemed to have remained in abeyance at any time."

This order may be called the Provisional Constitution (Amendment) Order, 2000.-APP
