An order to provide for extension in the term of the Chief Election Commissioner


Whereas it is expedient to provide for extension in the term of the Chief Election Commissioner.

And whereas the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan is held in abeyance in pursuance of the Proclamation of Emergency of the fourteenth day of October, 1999 and the Provisional Constitution Order No. 1 of 1999.

And whereas the National Assembly stands suspended in pursuance of the Proclamation of Emergency of the fourteenth day of October, 1999 and the Provisional Constitution Order No. 1 of 1999.

Now, therefore, in pursuance of the Proclamation of Emergency of the fourteenth day of October, 1999 and the Provisional Constitution Order No. 1 of 1999, and in exercise of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, the Chief Executive of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan is pleased to make and promulgate the following Order: --

1. Short title and commencement.
(1) This Order may be called the Extension in the Term of Chief Election Commissioner Order, 2000.
(2) It shall come into force at once.
2. Extension in the Term of Chief Election Commissioner
Notwithstanding anything contained in the Constitution, or any other law for the time being in force, the Chief Executive may, in his discretion, by an order, extend the term of the Chief Election Commissioner for such further period or periods as the Chief Executive may determine time to time.
