The following Order made by the President on 17th September, 1980, is hereby published for general information:-

In pursuance of the proclamation of the 5th day of July, 1977, read with Laws (Continuance in Force) Order, 1977 [C. M. L. A. ’s Order No. 1 of 1977], and in exercise of all powers enabling him in that behalf, the President is pleased to make the following Order:-

1.

Short title and commencement.

(1)

This Order may be called the Constitution (Third Amendment) Order, 1980.

(2)

It shall come into force at once.

2.

Amendment of Article 227 of the Constitution.-
In the Constitution, in Article 227, in clause (1), the following Explanation shall be added at the end, namely:-

"Explanation.--- in the application of this clause to the personal law of any Muslim sect, the expression " Qur’an and Sunnah" shall mean the Qur’an and Sunnah interpreted by that sect."
